All-Star Granny CAL

Posted by sallenlouise on October 9, 2007

Hi guys!
Well, I have  started a local Stitch Wits group on Ravelry. I also decided to make a CAL group, Stitch Wit Cals. If any of you are over there, come on in! If you didn’t know, Stitch Wits is the local group that I started for fellow crochet/knit/yarn enthusiasts! If you are in or around the Burleson, TX area, RSVP here. We meet every Tuesday for the time being. As well as one Saturday a month.

Here is the CAL that will begin in November.

Pattern: All-Star Granny
Finished Size: 54″X68″ Each Sq = 3 1/2″
Book: Granny Delight Afghans  project #3, page 13
Publisher: Leisure Arts, Little Books, 2000

~I bought my copy from Hobby Lobby for $2.79

MATERIALS:

  • Hook: H
  • Worsted Weight Yarn
  • Color A: (Blue)26 ounces (740 grams, 1,785 yards)
  • Color B: (Natural)17 ounces (480 grams, 1,165 yards)
  • Color C: (Lt Blue)15 ounces (430 grams, 1,030 yards)
  • Yarn Needle

SQUARES:

  • SQUARE A: Make 48
  • SQUARE B: Make 96
  • SQUARE C: Make 48

If interested in the cal, let me know! If you are not a Ravelry member, that’s OK. You can participate here, just POST a COMMENT. I will be adding a page just for the CAL. So tell you crochet friends that you think might be interested! It will be fun!

I’m not sure how long this would take generally, but there are a lot of squares. (192 actually!) My Goal will be to make 5 squares a week, so 20 squares a month. This will have me finished by November 2008. It will take a total of 13 months. WOWSER! LOL!

Now, let’s see how that all works out! Come on, it will be a lot of fun!

Busy, Busy, Crazy!

Posted by sallenlouise on October 6, 2007

Well, as you may have noticed, I have bee MIA.  Not purposefully mind you, but just the same. I have been working. If you have your own business, you know you just can’t twiddle your thumbs and wait for something to happen. You have to WORK to get something to happen.  So, I have been working.

My daughter has still been taking up my computer time with school stuff. At first, it was aggravating not to able to get on and surf, post, and play. Especially when I realized that my Ravelry invite came in!! Woo Hoo! I’m so happy! I’ve been on a few times. Maybe soon I can really play!  I have added a few things to the different areas, but wow….there’s a lot that you can do!

My insomnia hit again, and then my sleep patterns were all funky. I have been having dizy spells, but a friend said it could be due to allergies. So, Claritin D to the rescue. Still dizzy spells though. We’ll see. I have to make an appointment anyway…..I just hate having to go to the DRs. Maybe I’ll just give him the run down of all my ailments and get everything taken care of at once. Yeah right, I see multiple visits ahead, argg.

I am loving the crochet meet up! If you have friends that share your craft, you know how wonderful it is. It’s just nice to get out and crochet with fellow enthusiasts! Funny thing, I’m really quite a shy person. SO, I almost canceled the first one due to nerves. I didn’t. I looked at like it was a business thing, and I was fine.LOL! Anyhow, how easy is it to start gabbing about yarn! The first Saturday meet is today.  Right now, we have it every Tuesday, and one to 2 Saurdays a month. I know, It seems like a lot. When the groups grows, we’ll slow down some, but I’m trying to keep things open for peoples schedules.  Besides, my girls love it! We always get there a little bit early, but stay late! It’s our time. If they didn’t enjoy it, I wouldn’t have it so often, so all is good!

My DH thinks it great that I started this. Speaking of, he is still out of town. It’s been almost a month, if not already. His boss told me yesterday that he thinks DH found him self a girlfriend down there…. Nice, eh, lol! I miss him so much. I was raised an air force brat, always thought that I’d marry into it. Well, that didn’t quite happen, lol! I just never thought that I would be almost in the same boat, dealing with the TDY’s and all.

I have pics that I need to share. YAY! But first, I need to get my camera looked at. My DD has been taking it to school.:) Then she conveniently forgets to bring it home. I finally found out that it was dropped, it’s cracked, and now I see that its jammed. I am unable to charge the battery. So wish me luck! I guess that I need to pick up a disposable or something. Arggg.

Well, I have to run. I will try to post more soon. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Ohh, it is supposed to rain today, keep your fingers crossed that it’s gonna be a great storm! Bye~

Swaps and all that fun stuff

Posted by sallenlouise on September 20, 2007

MYSTERY YARN BALL SWAP
This is what I sent to my partner for the Mystery Yarn Ball Swap.

This is what I put together for her! I included this set of stitch markers, plus some Harry Potter trading cards. I also used a skein of RH Symphony to finish wrapping…I ran out! LOL~ This was my first Mystery Yarn Ball swap, and I had lots of fun putting it together. It took a while to wind it all, but that was part of the fun! I hope she enjoyed everything!

Mystery Yarn Ball
Selah’s partner should have received hers by now, but we forgot to take a picture. I do know that everything but the Holiday Knits book and Michaels mints from the 1st pic, plus a pattern book of baby sweaters and a big Strawberry Shortcake sweater book. Her partner makes sweaters for children for charity. Selah thought that would be neat for her to have. I think she yanked some of my pre-made stitch markers..but I can’t remember , lol! I’ll have to ask her.

The final results: The 1st one from me, and the 2nd from Selah. We were able to wrap her books up, they were soft. Her skein started out a small looking 3.4 ounce ball, and ended up looking like a skein of RH, the 7 ouncers! Just sort of funny to me, lol!

OTHER SWAPS

OK, this is a little clutch/pouch thing that I made for another swap. I wont say which one, or for who, they haven’t received it yet. I just had to share! It’s nothing major, and it’s not what I had planed for it to be, but there you go! I thought it was cute. I used Caron SS for the outside, and RH for the lining. See the button, that’s for easy removal for when you have to wash it. I just realized though, that if the inside needs to be washed, most likely the outside will need to be as well…Hmmm. Ohhh my mind lately!lol!

I have some Halloween squares to show! I love it when I can do this (alternate the colors on the other sq):

As you can see, I have been playing around with the basic granny. I did the diamond by pulling my alternate yarn along. I’m giving this ago, and practicing because pretty soon, I’m going to try crocheting from a chart. That will be interesting, I’m sure!

HSK SWAP

I am working slowly on my kit tote for Miranda. I’m using the colors she likes, and using an afghan pattern that I have, I’m making the tote. What I’m not looking forward to is making the lining. If I can sew one, I might do that, but I really can’t sew…. I know, a lining should be simple enough, but I am challenged in this area. I found this out during HSKS 1. I really did give it my all, but I ended up having to buy a tote for my last parter. 😦 So, I may have to crochet it. YAY!(FYI:That is a sarcastic yay!)

Other News

I am working on something special for Patti. She is the wonderful artist, graphic person that made my banner and button for my Etsy store. Did you notice the petals…AWESOME! She also made me a banner for Tupperware. I love it! You can see it here. Check out her Etsy store, she has some really Cool Cats and other things. I am very great full to her and want to put something special together that she will love.

OK, I have more pics and swap news, but I cant post it all in this post now can I? Nope! So, maybe tomorrow I will post more pics. I hope you are having a great night, I will talk to you soon~

Howling out loud for feminism

Posted by sallenlouise on September 18, 2007

Watch me turn into a
Wolf at YouWild.org

This is awesome!

I hate insomnia. It screws up my whole schedule. I will finally catch up on sleep during the day, which means I’m up late again. (way late) When I finally get back on schedule for a week, a few days, it knocks on my door again. ARGGGGGG.

Where am I going with this? I saw Jessica Valenti on BookTV the other night. She is very open, and to the point. Some of you may think that she is a little harsh..(and that is definitely OK) I believe that she has some valid points. She has a book out,  Full Frontal Feminism. I want to read it. Some of what she was saying during the program had me laughing like mad. Then again, I could just be mad due to the insomnia, and many other reasons.

She has a site called FEMINISTING. Check it out if you don’t mind seeing some bad language, and many, many pointed comments.  I will say this. I like the honesty. I like that it is to the point. I like many of the arguments, some of it I’m not sure what to think. Be sure to watch the Wanda Sykes you tube bit. Gotta love her.  I am so with her on the SSM thing. To each their own ,that’s what I think. We have much bigger things for our government to deal with.  The war, education, economy, getting our homeless of of the streets….shall I go on?

HSK Swappers, she even had something for us….LOL. Well, sort of.  (actual Mattel toy)HP Flying Nimbus 2000 . I found it humorous, you may find this distasteful,  so consider yourself warned.

I think that I should quit now, lol!  If I offended any of you, please accept my apologies. That was not the intent.

ummm, a little bit of this, and a little bit of that.

!!SLYTHERIN HOUSE NEWS!!

Congratulations to PAULA!!! She won the drawing for the $10 gift certificate to The Loopy Ewe! The drawing was really technical….My daughter drew the name out of an envelope. So sad that I didn’t have a sorting hat….that would have been cool! lol! Yes, I’m a dork….sometimes!

In The News

Mystery Illness Strikes After Meteorite Hits Peruvian Village

This was the first thing I saw online today. Is this not interesting or what? I hope they keep us updated on the developments. I would love to know what they find!!

The Enduring Mysteries of the Moon

I am a lover of the moon. It has always been a link to my family back home. (England) When the moon is high, I know they are (not getting technical on the time here) basically living life, doing their day to day things. When I look at the moon, I always feel closer to them. (I know, it probably sounds corny!)

I have other reasons for my love of the moon. It has always been a constant. I remember gazing at the moon when I was very little, and I remember how the moon looked on specific moments from my past. She was always there. I have always thought of the moon as female. Why? I don’t know. Maybe she is, after all she is the representation of the Goddess. I can assure you though, I did not know this when I was little. Maybe it is just like boats. They are always female. Hmmm.

Hubby News

OK, moving on before I become really nostalgic and get all teary and emotional….We don’t want that now do we. You might know already that hubby works out of town a lot. He is down south as we speak. Yesterday, he went to the DR. due to his finger being highly infected. They gave him a shot for the pain and a shot of antibiotics, froze the finger, an cleaned it. He was out of it most of yesterday. He’s still in pain, and goes back at 11am to see the Dr. I hate this. My DH is in pain, not well, and out of town. He should be home where I can take care of him. At least be able to see for myself that he’s alright. He is one of those that doesn’t go to the DR unless absolutely necessary. So, yes, I am worried and I’m sad. I usually get aggravated with him when he has a cold because, well….YOU KNOW WHY!(lol) Don’t make me say it! This is just different. This is more than a cold. I know, some of you are like….he’ll be fine, get over it. I guess I’m just silly that way. I miss him.

House News:

NONE. 😦

SWAPS

I said that I will post pics, and I will. Just not in this post, lol! I have to upload the pics and I honestly cannot be bothered at the moment. Sorry! I do have a few to post though.

Let’s Get Hooked

The first meet up is tonight at 7. Woo hoo. I still can’t believe that I started this! Funny thing, I did want to cancel it, lol! Nerves I guess. I really am a shy person. I guess I will just look at it as in a job perspective. I think it will be fun! If you are in the DFW area (more so FW) come see us! It will be fun to get to know other’s with the same hobby! YARN ADDICTION!! Speaking of, I will have to sort some out to swap. It’s mostly novelty though. I learned a lesson on sales. So, here’s a friendly tip:

Just because a $5 skein is on sale for $1, (rough estimates, lol) You don’t need to buy 40! You might get by with just 20!

Alright, I can’t think of anything more to note. Besides, this. Liz, I’m honored!! I will be doing the same with you. 🙂 I just popped over and saw my name…made me giggle….lol!

OK, YES, I think I’m sort of OUT there today…I think I need a nap! Yeah, definitely do, my dogs even think so, and they are very smart! Bye for now!

Friday Night Dessert! (Pay it Forward update)

Posted by sallenlouise on September 16, 2007

Well, the other night, when pizza went out the door, the kids had wanted something yummy for dessert. I obliged. Even though I am trying to loose some extra poundage…how can you resist them when they look at you with those pleading eyes, lol!

This is what I made, and from prep to mouths, it took me 20 minutes! They were happy!

I by mixing the *altered cake mix. Adding it to my Tupperware Heat N Serve container, with lid on, popping it into the microwave for about 10 minutes. While that cooks, I put most of the milk on the boil, I mix the custard powder, sugar(in our case Splenda) and left over milk together. When the milk is almost at a boil, I add the custard mix….The key is to keep mixing. The end result was wonderful, if I do say so myself!

The cake batter ready! Milk on the boil!

Cake batter ready for the microwave Milk on the boil

Custard just about done! Strawberry cake ready!

Custard added Strawberyy Cake ready~

The normal way we have custard! The Posh Way! 🙂

Reg Custard Voila

The kids had theirs with the cake on the side, I had mine the posh way! It was yummy! I was very pleased with the outcome.

~The following can be noted as a SALES PITCH, but really, it’s just enthusiasm turned into one!!!lol! I have added the link the the product page if you want to check it out for yourself.~

WOW!!! I love the Heat N’ Serve container!! I will be buying more. The one I have is getting used for everything! I can’t believe it has taken me this long to bring Tupperware into my house. I grew up with this in England, and my aunt still has some from when I was a baby…..I’m now 30 years old. So, yes, I will agree that some products are a little steep $$ wise, but in the long run, you definitely get your moneys worth. Another plus….lifetime guarantee!

Incentive: If you order any Heat N’ Serve container by September 21st, I will add the Self Icing Cake recipe,as well as a main course recipe via e-mail. E-mail me or leave a message here. I will also have other specials here!
